Frequently Asked Questions
What are compression stockings?
Compression stockings are specially designed socks or stockings that apply gentle pressure to your legs to help improve circulation, reduce swelling, and support day-to-day comfort.
Who can benefit from compression stockings?
They may help if you experience swelling, varicose veins, poor circulation, tired or heavy legs, spend long hours standing or sitting, or want extra support during travel.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Please wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off, along with loose-fitting trousers, shorts, or a skirt. This helps make measuring easier and more comfortable, especially if thigh-high stockings may be suitable for you.
Why are appointments only available in the morning?
Legs and feet naturally swell as the day goes on. Morning measurements help us achieve a more accurate fit so your stockings feel supportive and effective throughout the day.
How long do compression stockings last?
With daily wear, most compression stockings last around 3 to 6 months before they begin to lose the elasticity needed for effective support.
What brand do you supply?
We supply high-quality compression stockings from Venosan, a trusted brand known for comfort, quality, and effective support.
How long will it take to receive my stockings?
For standard sizes, delivery usually takes 2 to 5 business days. Specialised options, such as stockings for ulcerated legs or non-standard sizes, can take up to 2 weeks.
Can I be fitted for advanced lymphoedema or lipoedema?
For advanced lymphoedema or lipoedema, we generally refer patients to a specialist. They may recommend additional treatment or specialised garments before fitting.
When should compression stockings be worn?
They are usually worn during the day and removed at night, unless a healthcare professional advises otherwise.
Are compression stockings difficult to put on?
They can feel firm at first, but with the right technique and guidance, most people find they become much easier to put on.
Important information
Compression stockings can be firm and may take some effort to apply correctly. It’s important that you have a reasonable level of mobility and hand strength, including being able to reach your feet and grip the fabric. If this may be difficult, assistance from a family member or caregiver may be helpful.
